Women were not allowed to work in early days just because people felt that men should do all of the work outside of the home. Women took care of their families.
Because they didn't like the competition and the idea that women might become independent from them.
African Americans were treated harshly , they were seen as property , they were slaves to the white population. The whites seen them as free labor for no pay , they were forced to do the work the white man or women didnt want to do. they were traded like bread, they were seperated from there families. They owned nothing but the clothes on there back they didnt even own themselfs. It was truly sad. They were beatin like rag dolls,
The right to vote and equal pay for equal work, among others.
In 1914 women were still regarded as 'belonging' to their husbands and very few worked outside the home, if they did it was as teachers, nurses etc. and then only single women, middle class married women did not work. Working class married women might clean or take in laundry. During World War I many men went off to war and the women had to take over the jobs that they did. Things like working in factories, driving buses etc. Of course many of the men did not come back so the women had to continue with the work. Many women were now widowed so they had to work to support the family. Finally, many of the women enjoyed the work they did outside the home and the added responsibility, so they were not as willing to go back to the old ways. This also started the breakup of extended families as people had to move where the jobs were. This really all started with the Industrial Revolution and is still going on today.
Only Roman men went to work. They worked from morning till noon. The women weren't really allowed to have a job. They had to stay at home and clean the house and make sure that everything is in order but some families had slaves to do the work for them. If the family had a slave the women would go out and shop for herself and for her family.
