Germany was blamed for World War 1 when really it was the fault of the Austrian-Hungarian monarchy House of Hapsburg. Germany did do terrible damage, acted out many atrocities against the French people during occupation of parts of France. They stole, plundered, raped and put people in concentration camps in World War 1. Then at the armistice they were basically forced to sign a very unfair Treaty of Versailles. That treaty forced them to demilitarize, pay out millions in reparations to other nations and basically blamed the Germans. The Germans did not consider themselves At Fault for starting the war either.

The Treaty caused a severe depression in Germany. They did not have jobs, food, shelter or a military. Hitler came into power and chose to disregard the treaty. He built up military forces and armament. He helped the Germans to get work, food and shelter. Then Hitler chose to fulfill his dream of taking over Europe. He invaded Poland on September 1, 1939. This catapulted the world into war. It also escalated the genocide of the Jews.
