Why when you start our car you have to have your foot on the accelerator pedal if not it won't start?

Try servicing the car... Fuel filter/Air filter and housing is the most common culprit. The car basically can't 'breathe' and pushing the accelerator forces the engine to run.

∙ 12y agoThe car should start no matter what, I put my foot on the accelerator on purpos to rev the engine as it starts to impress my friends round it its pretty cool but yeah.

This may sound crazy, but check the actual accelerator pedal assembly itself. My 2000 Explorer had an EGR system leak at the exhaust manifold which directed incredible heat onto the firewall. This resulted in melting the PLASTIC accelerator arm which is attached to a pivot point on the firewall adjacent from the leak. The arm melted and the pedal eventually rested on the floor, restricting it's stroke. I was pretty surprised, but it happened.
