Conversely, many poor Mexicans wish to emmigrate to the United States because they think their lives will be better there. Although Mexico has no economic incentive to make their poor citizens stay, they coordinate with American efforts to control illegal Immigration for several reasons: * Illegal immigrants put a great strain on Mexico's emergency services. They often are unprepared to cross the desert on foot. * Human smuggling is lucrative and feeds violence, corruption, and sexual abuse. * It would be very bad diplomacy to directly challenge American immigration policy, and could cost Mexico lucrative trade with the US.
