For an engine to run it needs the following; Fuel, Air, Compression and an Ignition source. (the heat of the compression in a diesel, but that doesn't apply here) If the engine turns over, it is getting fire, fuel and air TO THE COMBUSTION CHAMBER, not just in the injection rail, it sounds like a compression issue. Has the engine been run hot recently? More likely the injection system isn't getting power. The elctrical timing could be off, especially if the distributor has been replaced, mechanical timing might be off if the timing chain has jumped a tooth or more on one of the timing gears. It could be many more obscure reasons. Water in fuel,, fuel filter, air filter plugged, possibly be getting way too much fuel..........Might not be tapping the dash in the proper spot and/or holding your mouth right!!!
Three other items to check when the engine turns over but will not start are the height tension wire between the distributor and the coil if it's external; control module in the distributor and the timing chain could have jumped a tooth or simply worn out.
Do you have fuel pressure ? It must have 9 to 13 LBS. No higher or lower are you will have starting and running problems.

my suburban wont start
a lot of factors to consider... will the engine rotate at all?
Is the fuel pressure ? is there spark at the plugs?
Ford introduced the 4.6 liter engine in 1962 in the Ford Fairlane. It was a replacement engine for the 5.0 liter Windsor engine.
There could be numerous reasons why a Suburban is making engine noise at start up. It could be anything from a blown gasket to a spark plug. A mechanic will be able to find out the cause of the noise.
The starter is out?
The oil pressure is too low. It can be dirty oil filter, not enough oil in the engine and failing oil pump. I would start with engine oil level.
You need to check the fuel filter and the fuel pressure regulator.
NO. You must check the fuel pressure with a fuel gauge. Just because you hear the fuel pump running doe's not mean it is pumping enough pressure to stat the engine. That engine requires 60 to 66 LBS of fuel pressure to be able to start and to run. NO higher and NO lower.
engine have spark and fuel pressure and still will not start
