Why will a guy show that he has interest in you then just randomly stop talking to you?

I became friends with this guy and we would text 24-7 from august to September. He would show some interest in me buy saying he wants to hangout with me and he is extremely shy. anyway he would tell me i look good when we did hangout. we went to the mall a few times with friends and one time my friends and i and him went to the movies together and my friends sat together and him and i sat together alone. he also wanted me to go to camp with him next summer and he was telling me there is dances and he seemed like he was intending stuff. we would stay up till 4am texting even though he had summer school (for smart people) and we would play games online together all the time. he told me I'm an awesome friend that he never wants to loose and he would protect me if my ex tried to do anything to me. and so many other things. i thought he was into me but then a week before school he just stopped texting me like he used to. he stopped answering. so i texted him the next day and we talked a little then he stops answering me. so now i text him once in a while and we talk like we used to with smilies and everything but he randomly stops answering me and doesn't text me the next day like he used to. also he used to text me when he hung out with his friends and now he would say "sorry i didn't answer i was at my friends" and he just doesn't text me anymore. idk if it's because of school or anything but idk what to do..i don't want to annoy him and ruin our friendship like i did with my ex. but we were sooo close before and now I'm probably a nobody to him. :/ like he isn't popular or anything. he's just a rlly smart shy kid...can u please help me someone!??!?!?!?! :(((((((((((((((

If you came on to strongly or he thought of you just as a friend . Some guys are wierd about feelings and emotions!
