Just once it ran out? The '94 buick roadmaster uses an in tank fuel pump, and uses your cars fuel as lubricant for the fuel pump. There is a possibility when you ran out of gas, the pump was starved of it's lubricant and went kaput.

Does the engine crank over?
If the engine runs well after it's warmed up, you just need to adjust the choke to make the engine start and run better when it's cold.
engine will idle high at start up same as a gas engine will. contrary to what most say, the newer diesels have same application on them as a choke. once engine has warmed up it will idle normally
has the same problem with a 92 Pontiac bonniville with the 3800 ended up being the cam position sensorI justot work.
A car may start better in the afternoon, because the heat of the sun has warmed up the engine. Once a car has sat over night, it may be difficult to start in the morning because the engine is cold.
check crank sensor
