Hello, I have a 1996 metro lsi. Under your shifter is a electronic piece. Have to take it apart to see it. ( you can manuanaly get it to releasse if you push it in with your finger) If it does not have juice, and the brake engaged. It will not allow it to come out of park. If you have both, then the switch is bad. Make sure you have juice to it before buying another one.I am pretty sure this is what you are asking about. If you have it in drive and goes nowhere. You have some serious problems. Start by checking tranny fluid. If it is ok, then go and get some lucas tansmission treatment at a truck stop, and this will help aid your bands in your transmission. The second part of this is if you are having tranny problems only. Good luck
Sometimes when used to driving manual transmissions, we forget to press the brake pedal to release the safety so we can shift the automatic into gear. It will not shift out of park unless you do this.
replace the shift cable
Check the shifter lock-out on the brake pedal. also check all the fuses.
shift soloinoid no. 2 or 3 would be stuffed it will sost about 200 to 300 ausi dollars to fix it
transmission goes into gear but wont hardly move
its broken !! take it to a mechanic
does it shift into reverse and wont drive? if so its your tranny it needs to be replaced
sounds like this fuse controls the sensor on your tranny
