Why won't my 1999 infiniti G20 start even though the battery is good and later it starts right up?

I have a '99 G20 and have recently had to replace the Safety Neutral Switch because it wouldn't start (like you said). Now, I have to depress the brake before it will start, and it starts every time!

sounds like electrical to me, try a new alternator and new battery. from the sounds of it, this should fix the problem.

I had this problem in the past, and only later found that the battery ground wasn't good. Removed black battery cable from the grounding point (opposite end of cable from battery), cleaned the spot where it was attached, and cleaned the cable end, then reattached it. Worked fine then. Usually that means either, The battery has a dead cell and needs changing, The battery is being over taxed and is experiencing large voltage drops, or the alternator is malfunctioning. The alternator could be charging the battery and then not charging for a long period of time. This will cause the battery to get low pinging the warning light then later shutting off when the alternator starts charging again. There are many auto part stores you can take it to, for a free test of the battery and alternator.

This same thing happened to me. The battery light would come on but my car would run fine then a few days later my engine started overheating and it turned out the fan belt had went. Once i replaced the fan belt everything was fine.

I'd check things like your battery connections, spark plug wires, and your distributor if you've got one. It's likely something electrical.
