Most likely you will have to have the transmission rebuilt, especially if the trans. fluid appears burnt and old, the reverse band(rear wheel drive) sometimes can be adjusted but from my experience once adjusted they usually snap from worn clutches, causing another headache, so i recommend taking it to a reputable trans. repair shop and getting a written estimate on the job, if you want to be savvy get a few different estimates on the job and go with the one you feel most comfortable with as well as the one who has the best warranty on the repair work performed.
certain vehicles like Chrysler need specific fluids to be used for proper shifting, also sometimes the trans. filters get plugged and a good trans. fluid change with a new filter may do the trick, also a linkage adjustment in certain instances can resolve the situation.
As i said earlier a reputable trans. shop should be able to lead you in the right direction for repair.
bad transmission
If you have an automatic transmission, it probably has a forward clutch/band problem.
If the automatic transmission on a 2002 Kia Rio won't go into park and there is no reverse, there is a problem inside the transmission with the gear bands. Each gear has a separate band and sometimes they wear out. New bands need to be put in or a new transmission needs to be installed.
Automatic or manual?
why reverse wont go in on 2004 town car
Need to know if it is standard or automatic.
ds
has a full charge won't go forward or reverse
trans is slipping
Your arctic cat 580 will go in reverse and not forward because the reverse linkage is okay while the forward linkage is not.
Automatic or manual trans? What am I missing here? Explain! If it is stuck in 3rd gear then it is obvious that it can't go in reverse.
there is insufficient vehicle info and symptoms to answer this question.
