Why won't the wipers in my 1997 Nissan Sentra move even though I can hear the motor?

if you can hear the motor its more than likely the linkage has popped off (normally a plastic clip allowing arm to move on the motor) its under the bonnet attached to the wiper motor, presuming its not dammaged you should be able to snap the conector back together, another common problem with wiper arms is the nut come loose on the thread holding the arm to the linkage (normally when wipers put on to clear snow off the screen as no recent snow fall should not be this but is still possable)
