( starting on page 105 the manual explains the brake-shift interlock and what to do if the gearshift lever won't move out of the P ( Park ) position with the brake pedal depressed )
if the shifter does not move the shift interlock may be bad
There is a small plug in the console forward of the shifter. Pop that out and insert a thin screw driver, you'll feel a springy resistance. Push it down and see if you can move the shifter. If the shifter will still not move, with the car on level ground, the parking brake full on, and the wheels blocked remove the shift cable from the tranny and see if you can shift the tranny with the lever. If you can, your cable is frozen. If you can't, you're looking at tranny repair.
If you are unable to press in the button to move the shifter. Replaces the brake switch connected to the brake pedal.
The new car price depends on what series of the Ford Escort ZX2 one is looking into buying. They can start at a price of 17,000 dollars and move up from there.
shifter is broke. my ranger was the same way. take the shifter off , and the ear on the other end will be broke. simple to fix. jus find another shifter like i did.
The shifter has splines that need to be lubed get under the truck and spray the floor shifter mecanism and have someone move the shifter as u spray should free up then lube the linkage
If the shifter will not move you have a mechanical or electric issued with the shifter. If the shifter does move you may have low fluid or a failed transmission.
Are you saying that the gear shifter will not move from park to drive or that when you shift to drive the vehicle will not move? We need more info.
Check to make sure that the brake lights are working - shift interlock and brake lights are a common circuit. Check stop light fuse If the engine is off, there is a small square cap next to shifter. Remove cap and use a screw driver to depress button inside hole where cap was removed. This will unlock the shifter.
Most likely cause is that you have a bad shifter module, which is the shifter itself. I've seen lots of these, try and play with the shifter to get it out of park, and make sure you have the brake pedal depressed. If you can get it out of park take it to a repair shop this way, and leave the shifter in neutral if you have to turn the car off, that way you can still start the car, and still move the shift lever to drive.
Which wires do you move? It sounds like you have a short in the wires that you move or touch.
Shifter Assy has a cover with just clips. stick a flat screw driver and pop it open. remove the ashtray wire and look on the passender side of the shifter their is a small bar that when you push the button INN on the shifter moves. usually this small rod (Bar) will move to the driver side move it left and right to find the correct possition and release the shiter. Eventuly you will have to replace the whole shifter Assy.
