That smell is probably your clutch burning out.
The clutch is slipping and needs replaced.
You will smell it burning and your engine will slip as you pull away in first gear and while going uphill.
could be not actualy in gear inspect shift cable also torque convertor may be bad
Clutch slipping? and will probably require replacement
Shift to a lower gear.
Accelerate slowly with the vehicle in a higher gear
usually your right foot.
strong burnt smell, cracks in friction material, if you put it in any gear and the car doesn't move or takes high rpms to make it creep.. the burning smell is always the dead giveaway without pulling the tranny..
well. whenever you have a low idle, you use first gear to accelerate. if u have a higher idle or throttlebody, you can just start in second gear.
gear ratio
For first gear, Hold the clutch, press the gear down, accelerate slowly and leave the clutch gradually... For the rest of the gears, hold clutch, press the gear down accelerate a little more than the current moving speed and leave the clutch a little faster than before...
