If I understand your description correctly, it fires while cranking, then quits? there is a fuel pump ballast on the inside of the left front fender. it reduces voltage to the pump under normal driving conditions, but is bypassed while starting. if it goes bad, your motor would fire then quit. the ballast is a small, white ceramic assembly ~3"long, on the inside of the LH fender, possibly partially hidden by the airbox. it has one male spade fitting on each end. you can test it by simply attaching the 2 wires to each other, then see if the motor will start and run. approx $5 from your nearest parts house for a new one if its bad.
ok i have a 1986 jeep cherokee it wont start from the key in side it turns over but dosent fire up an its got (gas an fire) it will start if you pull start it an it has a carb
The Cherokee word for fire is atsilv
probably have a bad crank sensor, so the computer isn't being told when to fire the plugs
Check to see if it is getting starter fuel fire by holding a screw driver to a spark plug. This method will shock you. Then check to see if you have gas in the vehicle. If neither of these are the issue contact a mechanic.
are you getting fuel?
check if it is getting fire
It's overheated, probably. unless you have matches in there
You can start a fire by getting two sticks that are somewhat long and rub them together until smoke comes. Then start blowing gently and a fire will start.
Two main reasons a car wont start are gas and fire. Is it getting gas to the tbi (carb). Are the plugs getting fire(spark). Track these two down and you will find your problem.
Getting fuel? yes
Is it getting fuel? Does it have compression?
