check the transaxle range switch and positioning....the holes should line up in neutral
You proble need a new Trany I would check you fluids ! Check all lines and plugs for the Trany.

Take it to a trany shop and have them test drive it. Sounds like you need a rebuild

no 998 trany has different sensors and diff shift points the computer wont no when to tell it to up shift or down shift
probley has a speedo problem. ot's a spring on the side of the trany that kicks in the over drive

The Ford C6 uses engine vaccum to sense the shift points. In a diesel engine setup there is a vaccum regulator to accomplish the same thing as in a gas engine.
YOU CAN DRIVE WITH OVER DRIVE OFF IT IS A GOOD IDEA TO DRIVE WITH IT OFF AROUND TOWN SO THERE NOT MUSH LOAD ON TRANY ON THE HIGH WAY TURN ON OVER DRIVE
Probably the trany cooler in the rad has let go. If this is the case then the coolant is in the trany also. check the trany for coolant and if it is you will need a trany very soon. I've tried flushing the trany when this has happened in the past and have yet to save a trany. Usually within 3-6 week the trany stops working.
