The transfer case shouldn't be a problem if it moves forward, reverse happens in the transmission before the transfer case. I would suggest that you have a transmission shop look at it, I tried removing my transmission once and ended up paying more to have someone else do the job. I have noticed that after parking my Blazer in this cold weather, my brakes seem to freeze up and it takes some power to get it moving after it has time to freeze up, and it bangs as it releases.
The same problem with my Lincoln town car. When disassembled the transmission, it was evident that the reverse piston did not move, "valve body" can not reverse the piston to move. All valves tested by documentation. I can not understand the problem!
its locked while window is down.

If your gear shift is locked into park, but the car stars and won't go into reverse, try unlocking the steering wheel. Turn the wheel back and forth to see if it remedies the problem.
could be the cylinder on the brake caliper is locked up could be the cylinder on the brake caliper is locked up
I had the same problem. The problem is caused by a ball that keeps the 2 forks locked in their respective position. I took the transfer case apart and found this problem. You can unlock the forks by using a screwdriver in 1 of the slots of just one of the forks and forcing it to unlock, it will take some force to do this, but is easier than taking apart the transfer case.
the security system for the radio has "locked" my radio. how do i un-do that? i do not have the security/locks pod for the vehicle.
We can't publish an answer to this, as this is something which could facilitate illegal acts, even though I don't doubt you have no such intent. As a mechanic and a Blazer owner, I can help you with this, but you'll have to email me at the address listed on my bio page.
Your 4-Wheel drive is engaged, thus meaning your front differential is locked. This is normally caused by a vaccuum leak.. in the front differential. Have someone look at it..
If 4-wheel drive is not needed, you should unlock the front hubs. Yes, the hubs remain locked even if your front transfer case is not set to 4-wheel drive, and this can be very hard on both the hubs and transfer case.
You might need to contact a locksmith. Often police departments will carry tools to get into a vehicle as well.
The QUADRA DRIVE is a full time system that is always engauged. It wouldn't move otherwise.
