Sometimes there is pressure on the front differential or between the front and rear differentials.

Try straightening out the front wheels, then move in back and forth (about 5 - 10 feet) and WHILE the vehicle is still rolling (AND if it is a manual transmission, with the clutch depressed) try shifting out of four wheel drive.
