Does the engine (A) suddenly die as if no electrical power is being distributed? If so I would say it is your HALL PICK-UP. The hall pick-up is found inside your distributor under the cap & rotor. Its purpose is to break up the magnetic field that your distibutor creates as it cycles. My guess at a price would be approximately 30 to 50 bucks Does the engine (B) sputter....and sputter...and then die as if being starved? Then I would suspect a clogged fuel filter. Simply crawl under the truck and replace the fiter. Pricewise my guess would be 10 to 20 bucks.
my 1992 dodge dakota wont stay running it stalls when driving and takes a few minutes to get started but if i wait it will start
i have a 2000 dodge work van 318 engine when i start in the morning it stalls several times until it warms up then ok
Could be faulty ignition coils especially if engine starts when cold then stalls and will not start once warmed up.
defective fuel pump
It could be a vacuum leak
The van runs well for about 6miles about 15mins. Once warmed up it splutters and stalls. I will wait for about 3 mins before the engine will re-start. The engine will run for a few more miles and will splutter and stall again.
Does it stall when first started or ONLY once the car has warmed up ? After it stalls will it start right up again ? or does the car need to cool down before it will restart ?
If white smoke is coming out of the exhaust when the engine is warmed up , it sounds like engine coolant is getting into an engine cylinder
Start it up again.
Sounds like the EGR valve needs to be cleaned or replaced.
Check for vacuum leaks.
Wait a second, then start it again.
