Why would a 2000 Malibu 3.1 engine die while driving with 45 lbs fuel pressure good Alt and battery?

My 2000 Malibu just cruised to a stop when the fuel pump went. there was no warning. Mostly when this is about to happen I would hear a noise. Not on the Chevy Malibu though. I suspect all GM products fail similarly. So Check to see if the fuel pump is getting fuel to the engine. You can contact me at Powell1D@msn.com. I am hoping to be able to put a 3900 engine in my Malibu now. Maybe I should post it for help. I'm not sure if it will fit.

If the check engine light is on then you need to have it diagnosed. If not then replace the fuel filter.
