Because when you dispute the charge with your bank there will be a 50/50 chance you win. This means, the company has a 50% chance of taking your money. Depending on the company and your internet activity you may be a victim of identity theft. I would keep a close watch on all my statements if I were you.

Also if you already started your dispute process with the bank I would like to recommend for you to file a consumer complaint with the BBB and Scam Book. Your complaint will raise awareness and allow other victims seek appropriate assistance.

What is the difference between debit balance and credit balance?

This is really not as simple as writing debit balance is or credit balance is:In accounting Debit literally means the left side and credit means the right side. The difference between a debit balance "account" and a credit balance "account" is:Debit balance accounts increase with a debit and decrease with a creditCredit balance accounts increase with a credit and decrease with a debitAssets maintain a debit balanceLiabilities and Owners Equity maintain a credit balanceThe above answer refers to accounting, however, I noticed that you also put this in Credit and Debit cards: using a bank debit or credit card is the opposite of the view you see doing accounting. On a Credit card statement for example, a credit balance would mean that the credit card company is "crediting" you with a certain amount, meaning you do not owe that amount anymore. A debit would be a rise in the balance you "owe them".

Is mega flix safe?

BEWARE! Megaflix is a scam site. I'm spreading the word-- I signed up a few weeks ago, and supplied my debit card number. The site claimed that it only needed the number to verify that I was a citizen or something and that no charges would appear. I was skeptical, but saw that it had "https" so I went ahead and gave it. I guess that doesn't mean anything, because in a few days I saw a $50.00 charge on my debit card from them. I called Chase (my bank) and told them the charge was unauthorized. They refunded me the money and took care of the dispute themselves. In a few days I received a letter in the mail from Chase that the charge WAS unauthorized and the refund was now permanent. I got my money back, but I'm still checking daily for foreign charges. You don't want this. Don't give these -ssholes anything.

If you received a 1.00 item from a large mail order house that you were not charged for would you go to the trouble and expense of mailing it back?

No, it will cost more to mail back. I would wonder why I got it. Check to see if your credit or debit card number has been used. Some identification thieves will use a very small amount to charge to your account and if that goes through they know it is valid. Then, they charge more in your name.
