It is for the obvious reasons, I think you already know. He feels as if his current relatonship isn't really working, so he can fall back on you. DON'T FALL FOR IT!!! I'm a guy, believe me I know!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
