Does hydrocodone metabolize to hydromorphine?
No.
Hydrocodone is metabolized to hydromorphone, norhydromorphone, norhydrocodone, dihydromorphine, nordihydromorphine, dihydrocodeine, and nordihydrocodeine.
If you meant hydromorphine then yes. I believe it is possible for as much as 30% of hydrocodone to be metabolized to hydromorphone, but usually is much less.
Yes - hydrocodone (also called Vicodine) is simply a small does of codeine and a standard full-strength dose of Tylenol (acetaminophen) in one pill. It was called "Tylenol 3" back in the day.
IV (intravenous) medication works the fastest because it is injected directly into the body.

I came here looking for an answer to this question myself, but as far as I know Hydrocodone was in use in the military as far back as the 1940s, and was in the military cabinet during World War II.
Yes
Yes, and No. I have been taking offbrand vicodin for back pain. I also drug test every week for probation. I have never tested (preliminary) positive for any drug. Hydrocodone (vicodin) does not show up in a dip stick test for some reason. Morphine almost certainly would give a preliminary positive. They would then send the sample to the lab for further gc/ms testing. They would be able to then discern the difference between the two substances after this lab test.
While morphine was being used illicitly at the time, and although there was a successful black market for morphine, heroin was much more popular and was considered a larger threat. the DEA knew of one smuggling ring that moved 200lbs of morphine into the U.S. every week back in 1968. Morphine was used as a general anesthetic on battlefields during the Vietnam War and there is evidence that addiction to morphine was most popular with veterans returning home.
Hydromorphone (Dilaudid) is much more potent than hydrocodone (Vicodin). Potency wise, hydromorphone is roughly 7-8 times stronger than hydrocodone when administered IV, and almost as much stronger when taken orally. Hydromorphone comes in short acting preparations (Dilaudid) only. For a brief time there was a long acting preparation on the market that was pulled back when it was learned that, when taken with alcohol, the long-acting mechanism broke down causing all the med to be released into the bloodstream at once. In some cases the results were fatal.
try it and get back to us,,curiosity killed the cat.
Lortab 10 (hydrocodone/ibuprofin) great for back pain!!!
