Either the drive belt is not releasing far enough when you press the clutch pedal or the brake is not engaging enough. You will need to see if the belt is still turning when you press the clutch pedal down.
The model and tractor number for 1938 to 1957 model B's is stamped in a pad next to the gear shift lever. It will most likely have a Bxxx with 3 or more numbers after. Then go to tractor data dot com find the year of the serial number.

Drain fluids and open gearbox. I had similar problem, and it was mouse nest built around gears, string and grass etc. They go in it in the summer.

That's how you're taught - use the tach to determine when to shift, and the speedometer for recovery speed if you lose a gear. After a while, you get to the point where you know when to shift by the sound of the motor.

Probably the shift linkage in that model.
It means that not all gears in the transmission can be power shifted. Some require the clutch.
There were three trans mission options. four speed five speed and 10 speed power shift with 2 reverse.
