Why would power steering stop working and the battery gage dive to 0 when in 4X4 in a Jeep Cherokee 2000 as soon as you disengaged 4X4 everything went back to normal a new radio was put in recently?

sounds like a serious dead short that occurs either with the linkage or electrical harness. Do not engage 4x4 until you have it checked at a reputable electrical shop,this could be real serious and do further damage....................Mike
