The birth of the person called Jesus is generally accepted as a historical event that did happen and he did exist as a person. Though, maybe not as described in some literature.

What a lot of people don't believe in, is that he was the Son of God.

That is for you to decide.

What does Christmas symbolise?

To find the first Christmas traditions would be difficult if not impossible today. As to the date of "Christ's Mass"? Why December the 25th? That the date actually goes back to Rome with a festival called 'Saturnalia' . A lot of Romans at the time of the adoption of Christianity into the Roman Empire (AD325) had various feasts. It was a time of revelry, celebration, eating and drinking. It was at the same time both a solstice observance and a harvest festival. On the Julian calendar it was proclaimed in 46 c.e., that the Saturnalia would fall on December twenty- fifth.

Why do we need to know about jesus's birth?

If you are a Christian, you need to know about Jesus's birth, because it is a d-day of sorts in history. God had been planning, ever since the fall of Adam and Eve in the garden of Eden, a Savior who would be the perfect sacrifice for our sins. If you aren't a Christian, it was just another birth, very unsignificant, which lead to a widespread "cult" following. ps: God loves you :)

Why is Jesus a Christmas symbol?

Christmas (December 25th), is the date that Christians celebrate the birth of Jesus, so basically there would not be a Christmas without Jesus' birth, hence why he is a symbol for the Holiday.

What is the meaning of anno domini sistem?

"Anno Domini" means "Year of Our Lord" in Latin. The Lord refered to is Jesus Christ and for the purposes of dating it is assumed (in this system) that The year 1 AD is the date of Jesus Christ's birth although many modern historians have suggested alternative dates. This sytem was popularised by Bede. The dates are simple to understand, the present is the year AD 2009 or 2009 AD, which literally means 2009 years after the birth of Jesus Christ. Dates before the birth of Jesus Christ are give the appelation BC (before Christ) and the larger the number the further before the year 1 AD it is. So 2 years before the birth of Jesus Christ would be 2 BC but 1000 BC is 1000 years before the birth of Jesus Christ.
