"low refrigerant would be my first guess. But it could also be caused by an overcharged system. You might have a compressor clutch problem or a pressure switch, or temp switch may be malfunctioning." It is normal operation for the clutch to disengage up tp 10 times a minute for Jeep Liberty AC mechanism, although 10 times a minute is high and I would be concened and take it to the dealer if it is under warrenty. The mechanism relies on a low pressure sensor on the low pressure side of the system, and when this detects a lower than expected pressure the clutch is disengages until the pressure rises. Low refrigerent could be cause but do not top this up until you have checked the minumum pressure or you could overpressurise the system. Added considerations: : Submitter of question: does this problem happen even though the AC is not turned on? That's what happens on my wife's 2006 Jeep Liberty. : Submitter of answer: are you talking about an AC that is turned on properly, but it's cycling too fast? I don't think that's the issue here, at least not for me. : My hunch for the cause of the problem: The floor position on the vent switch is next to the floor/defrost position. Maybe an electrical contact in the switch is out of place enough so it touches something it shouldn't. Fix by replacing the switch? I'm hoping to verify this or find another solution.
