The reason for a oil spray out of the front differential dipstick in a 1999 Subaru Legacy is because of the cold. While it was -30 the car oil thickened, when the engine started and tried to pull the oil through, pressure was created. The engine was not able to pull the thickened oil in and the pressure pushed the oil out of the dipstick.

Is the fuel pump the same on a Subaru legacy and Subaru legacy outback?

Pretty sure the fuel pumps are the same thru most of the Subaru lineup. The only difference would be between turbo and non-turbo models. I have found that if the years are close is the most important part, make shure to count the wires, the newer ones have a couple of extra sensors that will make your check engine light come on if not right

Will roof racks from a 1999 outback fit a 2005 legacy?

Unlikely. These are a couple of generations apart and are different models. You could call the parts department at your local Subaru dealer and ask them to look up the part numbers for both. If they are different part numbers, the answer is "no".

Where is the majority of Australian outback?

Better than 80% of Australia is outback. Travel a couple of hours inland from any point on the coast (except in Victoria and Tasmania) and you are on the outskirts of the out back. The outback is becoming smaller as transport improves.

Where is the turn signal flasher located on a Subaru Legacy?

I have a 1999 Subaru Legacy Outback. The flasher on this vehicle is on the left under the steering column. It is near the small fuse box and slips over a metal clip that is mounted on the left side. I found it by turning the flashers on then listening for it. I could also feel the vibration on the flasher as it clicked. I removed the panel under the steering column to expose the area, that is held in place with a couple of screws.

How do you change the light bulb for the shift console on a 1996 Subaru outback?

You start in the console at the bottom of the storage tray. Remove a couple of screws there, as I recall, and lift the tray out. That should expose a couple more screws that hold the panel around the shifter. Take them out, lift the panel, and you have access to the bulb. Only tool required is a phillips screwdriver. I believe that it uses a number 194 bulb. Easy fix and an almost instant feeling of accomplishment.

Why is your 1999 subaru outback legacy using oil?

My 1999 subaru outback legacy is not using oil. That said, a Subaru engine works much the same as every other 4-cycle internal combustion engine. There are a couple of general categories that could cause excessive oil usage and more information is necessary. 1) Define "using oil". What do you mean when you say that? Your oil usage could be within the realm of "normal". 2) You could have worn parts. How many miles on the odometer? 3) Do you ever see blue smoke coming out of the back? 4) Have you checked for leaks? Can you put a piece of clean cardboard under the engine when the car is parked? Determining location of leaks is the first step to repairing them. 5) Is there oil in the coolant recovery bottle or is the coolant clean?

How do you check for a power steering leak on a 1998 Subaru Legacy Outback?

Our 98 subaru outback started screeching and grinding while turning when the fluid got low enough which was the first clue. Open the reservoir, and fluid was low. The fluid gets everything around the power steering pump wet, and pools on the engine beneath the pump. The pump is on top of the front passenger side of the engine. Eventually the leaked fluid spills from the engine onto the exhaust which makes for some bad smells. As of right now, the leak is bad enough to need filling every couple of days. Some forums have suggested it may simply be a gasket between the reservoir and the pump itself.
