Maybe the friend likes you. Or possibly he's keeping an eye on you for "the guy." Or maybe you're just interesting to look at for any of a number of reasons, such as having spinach caught in your teeth or wearing clothes that went out of style three decades ago.
In other words: we have no idea. If you want to know why someone is doing something, ask them; that way you'll at least find out what they want you to think.
