There can be several reasons for this;
The above is all true if you are really talking about hte Head Gasket. But if you are "saying" Head Gasket, but are really talking about the Valve Cover gasket, then you could have a more serious problem, namely a bad compression ring. Remove the Oil Filler Cap and with the engine running if there is considerable air blowing out of the Valve cover then that is probably the problem......have a Compression Check done on the engine. The most common cause is a leaking valve cover gasket. Try tightening the bolts ever so slightly. If that does not cure the leak, and you know for sure the gasket is leaking, then it will have to be replaced.
Sometimes a leaking valve cover gasket can be fixed by simply retorquing the bolts to their proper torque. If that doesn't solve the problem, the gasket will have to be replaced as per your engine manufacturer's specifications.
If a head gasket is leaking, it has already failed and needs to be replaced and if you keep driving this vehicle you will bey buying a new engine.
If it is leaking from a bad head gasket, it is because of a bad head gasket. If it is leaking from a bad intake manifold gasket, it is because of a bad intake manifold gasket.
Gas is leaking into your oil pan. If the head gasket is leaking, it needs to be replaced. While the cylinder head is off, look for a cracked piston or worn rings which may cause gas to leak into the oil pan. If the gasket has been replaced and you had no piston damage or bad rings, then change the oil and filter.
NO NO, That would be a intake gasket leaking, not a head gasket. You also should check where the heater hose hooks up on the intake, it may be leaking.
The Intake gasket is leaking, NOT THE HEAD GASKET. Replace the intake gasket
If you are loosing coolant, you have a leaking head gasket. If you are loosing oil and have a turbo, the seal on the turbo is bad. either intake manifold gasket or head gasket is leaking
Depends on where you live, who performs the repair, dealer or independant, and if the head is warped or cracked. The head gasket will for sure have to be replaced and then the problem that caused the head gasket to blow solved. It can cost as little as $800 to as much as $3,000.
The head gasket could be leaking between water jackets and the cylinders. No visible cracks would be seen as they would be internal within the gasketing material. James
A head gasket does not wear out and there is no specific reason for replacing one unless it fails. Usually, head gasket failure is related to engine overheating that causes the heads to warp. Thank you, but it's not the head gasket that has broken. I had the seal replaced last year because it was cracked/leaking and leaking oil. And now the garage says it needs replacing again. Should it been leaking again so soon (after 13,000 miles)?
gasket wears out in time. leaking coolant is the result of a bad gasket not the cause of it.
