there are a number of reasons that two seemingly identical items might carry non-similar serial numbers. the most likely reason is that the manufacturer decided to change their identification methods during the the item's production run. the next most likely reason is that the two items arn't identical: aren't actually the same caliber, have some sort of internal change or upgrade, were not actually manufactured by the same company - one may be a copy of the other. there may be more reasons that I'm able to guess. hope this helps, robbshelby cincinnati oh
We're not sure either- you will need to take it to a gunsmith. There were dozens of different caliber 5 shot revolvers.
Not a lot of serial number data out there for these revolvers. There were made as a "lower price" arm by the Iver Johnson Company from ABOUT 1910 to ABOUT 1940.
Some were made in .38 Colt New Police caliber.
It depends on the caliber and your ability to shoot it.
Just another version of the Iver Johnson Safety Hammer revolvers. The grips are Tenite (plastic), which is different (and cheaper than wood), but not special. Manufactured from 1964 to 1975.
You are aware that Ruger has made .22 caliber rifles, pistols and revolvers? You have to give information to get information.
I can say that these revolvers were made from 1911-1935.I do not believe that the serial numbers are available in the public domain. The value of these revolvers is between 50-100 dollars, for a firearm having between 60%-90% of its original finish remaining, and a good bore.
value depends on overall condition. you will also have to i.d. the model, caliber and serial number. colt made a number of different revolvers in 1886
Library, Advanced search on Google are places to start.
how to breakdown and load 38 caliber iver johnson pistol?
Luckily, Iver Johnson made mostly 8-shot revolvers. The 'Supershot 9' was made from 1929 - 1949, so figuring yours at the early range of that is reasonable. sales@countrygunsmith.net
Actually, most of the J or I framed revolvers in .32 caliber are SIX shot. The .38 caliber versions are 5 shot.
