Why would two 32 caliber Iver Johnson Arms and Cycle Works revolvers that appear to be identical have serial numbers that are totally different?

there are a number of reasons that two seemingly identical items might carry non-similar serial numbers. the most likely reason is that the manufacturer decided to change their identification methods during the the item's production run. the next most likely reason is that the two items arn't identical: aren't actually the same caliber, have some sort of internal change or upgrade, were not actually manufactured by the same company - one may be a copy of the other. there may be more reasons that I'm able to guess. hope this helps, robbshelby cincinnati oh
