Why would you answer a question I DON'T KNOW because that is no help?

There are several reasons someone might answer a question with "I don't know."
1) They haven't read the guidelines and don't know that they should leave the answer blank so that it is more likely someone will provide an answer.
2) Some seem to think that if they answer "I don't know" it will help get an answer sooner, when it actually does the opposite.
3) They might think that since there isn't an answer, they should answer the question in some way.
3) Just because they can, or because they are trying to be funny.
