I heard many people saying that they want to die at home and It's often just too hard to care for someone with a illness, especially at home, without proper facility. Nursing home care brings everything you might need to the home, medications, bandages, expert staff tailored to your need. If you're daunted by home care or simply dont want your loved one's to die at home nursing home is best for you.

When can you put your parents in a nursing home?

A parent can be put into a nursing home when a doctor has dome a psychological or physical evaluation of that parent. If the parent is considered mentally sound and able to look after themselves (assisted living also included in this; such as house cleaners; nursing care comes into their home then the parent is stable and is fit to live on their own. If the parent is extremely ill and unable to look after themselves; has Alzheimer's and may wander off then the parent can be put into a nursing home.ClarificationIn the US:First, your parents would need to be in a state where they are unable to care for themselves. In most jurisdictions you would have to file for guardianship and receive guardianship in order to have the right to place a parent in a nursing home. The court would examine the medical and psychological evidence and would appoint a guardian ad litem to look after your parent's best interests in the proceeding. The guardian ad litem would have the authority to make home visits, consult with doctors and other family members, review finances and bank records, and would write a comprehensive report to the court to enable a judge to render an informed decision. You may be able to make the decision to admit your parent to a facility if your parent had executed a Durable Power of Attorney and Durable Medical Power of Attorney and had become unable to make those decisions for her/himself.

Can you get a 10000 gift from parent prior to them going into a nursing home?

The parent would be ineligible for Medicaid payment to the nursing home (but not ineligible for other medical services) beginning with the month the gift was made and for the number of months the amount of the gift would have paid for nursing home care at the private pay rate - i.e., gift was made in May, gift = $10,000, private pay rate = $2,500; patient is ineligible for four months, May, June, July and August.

If an elder parent has given you 50000 and shortly thereafter they end up in a nursing care facility are you as the child responsible to give back that money to pay for the nursing care cost?

Hi, The question is: "If an elder parent has given you 50,000 and shortly thereafter they end up in a nursing care facility, are you as the child responsible to give back that money to pay for the nursing care cost? My answer would be: First, add your totals for remodeling your house to make it safe for your parent(s). Second, add the amount of time he/she spent in your house (e.g. If he/she spent 6 months in your house, take a total for room/board (times-x) 6. Plus, if you stayed at home to take care of him/her--take that amount x 6. Also, you would have to pay self-employment tax (SE tax). It is wise to consult an attorney first. ...but if there is any remaining money, it should go back to the elderly parent. lach61
