Whether it's something burning or any other smell that's not there, it's all in your head, and I mean that literally, I'm not joking.. Only way you can smell is through the olfactory nerve in your nose, which sends that signal to your brain.... Put briefly, you are having simple partial seizures in your temporal lobe..Abnormal electrical discharges in that part of the brain is creating this sensation of smell, but the smell does not exist...Go see a Nuerologist, and get an EEG and you will understand...It can be controlled with Meds..

In what ways the sense of smell useful?

You can smell burning and sourness. If you smell something and it smells horrid then you would put it down. If you didn't smell it and u just looked at it and it look good, you wouldn't be able to determine if this really is something i should be consuming. So you should be thankful for smell instead of having to taste something that could virtually be poisoness to your body

Would you get the same fragrance by burning something as by melting it?

No. By burning something you are breaking it down and forming new products (smoke, carbon dioxide, etc), and these are different from the original compound. In contrast, when you melt something, some of it is actually vaporized at the same time, and that is what you are smelling. So when you melt it, you smell the molecules of the original compound, whereas when you burn it, you are smelling the compounds that were formed during the burning process. That said, when burning something, you will probably also smell some of the original compound, because usually when something is burning, some of it is also vaporized and not all of it is burned.

Would a bad cv joint have a burning smell upon driving?

While it is possible it is highly unlikely. A burning smell is usually associated with a brake that is overheating. If you suspect either of these things it is important to get the vehicle looked at right away as they could cause you to lose control of the vehicle.

Does a bad camshaft sensor cause burning smell?

What causes a burning smell from a car engine?

Many things can cause a burning smell under the hood of your car, if the smell is accompanied by smoke you are most likely looking at a fluid leak dripping onto something hot and burning off. If it smells sweet this would be a sign of a coolant leak. A ozone type smell would most likely be caused by a burnt clutch (standard transmission) or brakes hanging up and staying applied. burnt clutch smell would be expected if you have a new driver learning to drive a stick. An exhaust leak would smell, well, quite frankly like exhaust which is a dangerous gas to be inhaling (CO2, CO, etc). either way if your car is smelling funky you should really have a professional auto technician check it out to prevent damage to your health, the environment or future damage to your vehicle.

Why would my 2001 Ford Focus have a rubber burning smell coming out of the air vents when the car stops at stoplights at idle?

The first and easiest answer that comes to mind is that there is a problem with the cabin air circulating fan. BUT - - there is not really enuf specific information. Are you sure it is a burning RUBBER smell, or a burning PLASTIC smell, or a burning ELECTRICAL smell? All could point to different problems.

If hope could be a smell what would it be?

Well seeing as this might be a serious question, I would just transpose that feeling of hope to something that When I smell it makes me think of redemption and knowing good things. Maybe food, or the smell of something that connects to you personally that makes you feel that way. But aside from an actual thought or two, this question is probably a highdea or something.
