I'm not 100% sure because there could really be a number of reasons. Maybe the best friend likes the ex girlfriend and he is trying to get closer to her. Maybe the ex girlfriend is a great worker and she is needed in the store. Maybe the best friend wants to get the two of them back together and is being sneaky about it. Really there is no way to tell with the limited information provided but know this. If you and your boyfriend share a true and honest relationship that is based in love you should trust him. If he says he loves you give him the benifit of the doubt. If he doesn't love you its best to find out now rather then later. I'm sure he does love you and you should be more confident in the fact that you are his girlfriend not her.
