Why would your computer shuts down automatically?

There could be several causes that a computer can abrubply shut down. Cause 1:

Stuffed with lot of Videos/Softwares etc in C:/ especially could cause your RAM Memory to go low. As a result of which, the computer might slow down and gradually shut down. In such cases, try increasing the virtual memory ....but see that while increasing it shouldn't increase your max memory allotted. Cause 2:

It could also be because your computer can have bad sectors. So, see that once in a month, you run scan disk especially C:/ Drive. Cause 2:

Maybe one or more of your vital files that are supported for your smooth running of your major programs in your computer might be deleted. This deletion occurs when specific viruses could delete such files. So, see that the softwares or the programs you install is not from an unauthorized site. You can download softwares from their official sites itself. To my knowledge these are some of the reasons y a computer can shut down abruptly. Jeet

it just did it to me the other day and the problemscould be:

-the battery may of died

-there may have been a power surge and in that case you would have to unplug everything, open up the computer and unplug all the things leading to the battery then unplug the power lead and plug it back in then try to turn it on with only the power lead plugged in, if the battery starts up then it was a surge in witch case you can plug every thing back in but if the fan in the battery moves a centre meter or the battery makes a little noise and turns off that means that the battery is dead so you would have to buy a new one (sorry)

Your computer has settings that tell it how long to stay on. I set the amount of time my Mac stays on before it shuts down to never. I shut it down manually except for Friday Nights because it is set to clean up that night by the factory.

You should be able to find that place in your computer using your help command.
