Why you plant trees?

Planting trees is good for environmental health. Trees play a major part in sustaining life on Earth. They help filter the air by removing harmful chemicals. They exchange carbon dioxide with oxygen (just like how animals do the opposite). Trees provide shelter, shade, food, and provide humans with medicine (of course this depends on what part of what species of tree), and raw building materials.

Trees help regulate the environment. Besides the gas exchange, they also control the local humidity by passing water through their leaves and trunk (why do you think it always rains in the rain forest?). Their roots help keep moisture in the ground and the soil itself in place:otherwise it would dry up and blow away (think Dust bowl) or wash away (erosion). Trees block the wind, which is why forested mountains last longer than bare rock: there is no wind to chisel, or sand-blast, it away.

Most people find trees to be esthetically pleasing -one reason why trees can be found in gardens across the world.

Trees have always been cultural symbols; tree icons are in nearly every culture. Commonly, trees represent nature and the environment. A popular example is the Tree of Life. In stories, it is not uncommon for trees to grow in place of dead bodies (or dead and dying people to become trees themselves).

As if I needed to write more, tree planting is also part of many traditions. Many peoples plant trees for special occasions such as weddings. Some cultures take the umbilical cord of newly born babies and plant it with a tree. When a new property is bought, trees are planted as "insurance" that the land will be healthy and the owner prosperous. Trees are also planted after the death of a loved one (perhaps adapted from the stories above). This is especially popular tradition in Judaism.

So you see, there are many different reasons for people to plant trees.
