try changing your sparkplugs. there could be a firing issue with the cylinder heads. also might want to look into a timing belt. might need to be reflashed for proper ignition firing. look into small fuel system maintenance like changing the fuel filter or pump. could be water or impurities in yr gas tank that are not burning off during the fuel burn and making the engine "stutter"
if its not doing it after 55MPH i doubt that its a balancing issue, but take a look at the struts/springs make sure nothing is loose.
It depends on what kind of car you drive. Cars with bigger engines (V6 or V8) will not be able to drive as far on 55 gallons as a four-cylinder car. If you know the fuel consumption rate of your car in miles per gallon (mpg), then multiply that number by 55 to get an approximate answer. It also depends how you drive - if you accelerate very quickly, you will not be able to drive as far on 55 gallons than if you accelerate more slowly.
You should have the wheel alignment checked. Could be a $20 Fix.
I had this problem also where my car would shake between 55-75. It ran smoothly at 80 (don't tell the CHP). Everyone I asked said tires, so I had the tires balanced and realigned, but that didn't fix it. Most of the mechanics I asked were stumped. Finally someone recommended having the struts looked at and sure enough, I had the struts replaced (the car had 70,000 miles on it) and it worked. I have never had this problem since (now the car has 150,000). I have sold tires for a number of years and I can assure you sometimes new tires can be out-of-round. If you are in Full time it is recommended not to go over 25mph that is probly why it shakes put it in part time you can go up to 55 mph in part time
two possibilities: loose motor mounts or contaminated gasoline. In addition, if you are saying it shakes going down the road at around 55 mph then you may have a tire out of balance, or a bent wheel.

The hypothetical reason why your car is jerking at speeds of over 55 MPH is probally due to the transmission slipping as it engages into a higher gear. If there is a hard shift of the transmission at higher speeds you may have to have the vehicle serviced soon. My car was doing this once and I had a tire out of round and ready to blow. I had the same problem. It was only when I took off at first, then when I was driving on the interstate it did it whenever I went over 55 mph and the cruise wouldn't work. I had to get the camshaft sensor replaced, and afterward I had no more problems.
