A Chevrolet 194 cubic inch 6 cylinder head will bolt onto a Chevy 250 c.i. 6 cylinder block. It will cause the 250 engine to have a higher compression ratio, as the 194 head has a smaller combustion chamber volume, usually given in cc's (cubic centimeters). It generally will not flow as well as a 230 or 250 head, as the ports are smaller, and it does not have the six exhaust ports separated in the same way as the later 230/250/292 heads. Otherwise, the external dimensions, and head-bolt locations are the same as with the heads of the later sixes.

It depends on what year the 194 head is as that only applies to the earlier 62-64 head.On 65-67 heads are basicly the same as the 230-250-292, in as they have separate exhaust runners, but still retain the smaller closed chambers. The only draw back is the smaller chamber shrouds the valves a bit and therefore some die grinder work needs to be done to unshroud them .I have used them successfuly on numerous 250 drag motors, mind you porting is needed and lump ports help above 6000 rpm, and they seem to favor bbc type cam specs, just depends on what use you have in mind. Below 6000 porting does wonders but the lumps seem to have no noticeable gains in power for street use , but bowl blending ( dondt go wild there or you will junk them )and gasket match them.I run a 63 nova with the lump ported heads 11.0-1 cr comp cams solid lifter 255 @ .050 .634 lift, pg trans 4500 converter, and this combo runs 10.90-11.10 depending on air conditions, ( no nitrous ).So make sure what year heads you have
