You can do great damage to your dog with unsupervised treatment with cortisones. This needs to be checked by your Veterinarian. What is causing the shoulder swelling, an undetected abscess, OCD or what? That is why it needs to be diagnosed first by a Vet. Then the Vet can offer you the proper treatment. Do NOT ever use cortisones such as Prednisone or methylprednisolone without guidance from your Vet. Some are very long acting such as this one and they all have many bad side effects. Taken properly and under the care of your Vet, they can do wonders but can also do horrible things in the wrong hands that do not know what they are doing. Take your dog to your local Veterinarian for treatment.
Methylprednisolone is a prescription-only drug. If the 4mg tablets were prescribed for a household member, they could definitely be harmful to the animal.Wiki User
