i put a transfer case from a (i think 94'model) in my 99, the only mod was cutting down the shaft that went into the transmission about 1". i used an angel grinder and a fiber wheel hitting it with wd-40 to keep it cool and spinning the yoke continuously to keep a straight cut... i cut it flush with the mounting bolts... u can check the id tags on both transfer cases... best luck , p.s. im no mechanic but the gear ratio is the most important thing to worry about, email me if u like dallaskendalltile@live.com
The automatics use different shift controls and are not interchangeable.
1997 and before it is on the tailshaft of the trans/transfer case. 1998 and later it is on the top of the rear axle.
Not with out modifications.
