Becoming an E4 is not based on your ASVAB score. If you are talking about enlisting as an E4, you must have a Bachelor's degree. You can also become an E4 by enlisting and doing a good job and putting your time in.

Is a ASVAB score of 79 good?

It is a good score. But alot of factors can make it more or less dramatic. The ASVAB test scores the test differently if you are a female or male. With an 82, you make it to the II category. Almost I but not quite! ;) I made an 82 also and im a girl in high school 11th grade so compare it to me and see how you think you did! But it is still a good score reguardless! Goodluck!

How do you study for the ASVAB test?

Your ASVAB score is actually your AFQT score which is made up of a weighted average of your scores on the following ASVAB subtests: * Word Knowledge * Paragraph Comprehension * Arithmetic Reasoning * Mathematics Knowledge Depending on the branch of the military you're enlisting in you'll also have a series of line scores that will qualify you for particular jobs within that service branch. ASVAB/AFQT score gets you in and line scores qualify you for job training.

has the laws changed as far as minimum asvab scores recently?

I am not sure that requirements for the minimum scores on the ASVAB has changed recently. However, since multitude of peoples are attempting to enlist during these hard economic times, spaces for enlistment became more competitive. For example 6 years ago one could get a decent job in the Navy with an ASVAB score of 35 (the minimum score), while now a recruiter wont even waste his time if an applicant does not score a 50 or above. It also depends on what branch of the military you are looking at, the more applicants for the branch obviously the more competitive getting in will become. I believe the minimum score for most branches are 30-35 on the ASVAB ( I would ask a recruiter to verify that), however if you want to qualify for certain jobs and bonuses and remain a competitive applicant you would need to score a 50 or greater. Hope that helped in some way.

What is the asvab test?

It's a timed military multi-aptitude test. It can be take and over 14,000 schools and Military Entrance Processing Stations (MEPS) across the country. It's a test you take before you join a branch of the military. The higher the score you get, the more possibilities you have for careers within the military. You definitely should study a bit before you take the ASVAB test. You can get a better job of your choice in the military with a good score.

What is the average ASVAB score?

Military entrance is based on your AFQT which is a combination of 4 of the ASVAB tests - Word Knowledge, Paragraph Comprehension, Math Knowledge and Arithmetic Reasoning. You score is compared to a nationally representative sample of 18-23 year olds. Your score is a percentile. For example an AFQT of 45 means that you scored as well a or better than 45% of the people in this nationally representative group of youth. The services require an AFQT of 31, except for the Air Force which requires 36. In good recruiting times the services can be more selective, so you want to be sure to get your best score. You need to study and prepare for the test. The most recommended study guide is McGraw-Hill's ASVAB which has a comprehensive review of the content areas found of the ASVAB, 4, full length practice tests, and lots of study tips. It also contains lots of information about each of the services, their requirements and career and training opportunities.
