It should, they didnt switch to the AX15 transmission until 1997. So from 89 to 96 it remained unchanged.

NO... You must put a 4L80E lock up converter back in it. If you don't you will have all kinds of trouble.
One transmission that will fit a 1991 Chevy Suburban is a 4L80E transmission.
