An equation is linear if and only if all of the unknown quantities are multiplied by a constant and added to the rest of the left or right side. In other words, there are no powers, trig, etc. ex. 5x -y = 12 is linear. 3a +4b +5c +19d +pi*f = 0 is linear. sin(x) = 0 is not. x^2 = y-15 is not.
To me, a guy with the $ tattooed on my left arm sleeve, means that it is the root, or origin of all selfishness, that it is a dark force that drives all of us to do things that we normally wouldn't do. Mine has to do with a whole theme of gambling, not with money, but with life. I was in the US Army, and was a 19D( Cav Scout), and many times I deployed, and took that gamble with life, and got paid for doing it. So I hope that kinda answers the question, at least that is my answer for what it means to me.
