It can.
It could if it has failed. It could if it has failed.
bad pressure switch
Check that the oil pressure is correct. The oil sending switch or the wiring for the switch is the most likely cause.
Either the switch is broken or it doesn't go to that light.
Why in the world would you want to do this? If the sending unit is defective then replace it. If the light is on you either have low oil pressure of the sending unit is bad. Low oil pressure will ruin your engine.
SWITCH
A defective or stuck brake light switch. There are basically 2 types of brake light switches. A mechanical switch, mounted on the brake lever and a pressure switch, mounted somewhere on the master cylinder.
Usually there is a pressure switch on the lever that is disengaged when pulled thus allowing the circuit to be complete and the brake light stays on until the lever is released.
some motion lights have a setting on the actual light where it will stay on when the light switch is in the on position. There are also some that if you turn the light off and immediately back on, it will stay on (the ones that I have have both of these functions).
Power Directed through oil pressure switch to fuel pump. Possible bad oil pressure switch.
More information needed: What make model vehicle is it? Early VW'S had a pressure operated brake light switch that was on the master cylinder. When you pressed the pedal the pressure would cause the switch contacts to close; lighting the brake lights. Haven't see one of them in a loooooong time! When I press my highlight the low light comes on but does not stay on and I have to hold the switch to keep it on.
