A cylinder not firing will push raw gasoline into the exhaust system where an O2 sensor will read it as running rich assuming this vehicle is fuel injected.
Improper timing, mixture is rich, engine wear.
Running rich, check your jets, (carburetor) make sure your float is free.
Spark Plug FoulingAlthough there are probably other causes that I can't think of at the moment, there usually are two main causes of spark plug fouling:The engine is worn, and loose fitting parts [like the "oil" rings on the pistons] that allow engine lubricating oil to get into the combustion chambers [cylinders]. The oil then gets onto the spark plugs, and is "cooked" on.Another possibility is that the fuel mixture is way too "rich," causing incomplete combustion which deposits carbon and lacquer on the plug tip.
If the spark plug is fouled ("too rich" or in other words: Too much fuel, not enough air or spark to ignite): It is possible that the rich fuel will dirty up an O2 sensor, which may trigger a P0420 error.
Fouling Spark PlugsThere are only two things I can think of that cause spark plug fouling:The fuel mixture is way too "rich."The "oil" rings on the piston are worn, allowing crankcase oil to get past and above the piston into the combustion chamber.
it is running to rich, lean it down then it will run
The best way to determine why the engine sputters and dies is to inspect the spark plug after the engine dies. There are two most likely reasons. In the first example, the engine will most likely just sputter and die. In the second, the engine will generally blow black smoke when it sputters. (1) The spark plug greyish is dry: It is likely that the fuel filter is too clogged to allow flow of enough fuel to keep the engine running. If the fuel filter is not clogged, then the carburetor needs adjustment. (2) The spark plug is coated with black carbon or is wet (or both): The engine is running rich and is flooding. Likely causes are a dirty/faulty spark plug; a dirty/clogged air filter; or the carburetor is set too rich.
likely cause is unburnt excess fuel. now need to look for the cause why the fuel is not being ignited or not ignited properly or why the fuel air mixture is so rich. could be a bad spark plug, wires, coil, bad fuel injector. etc.
not really.new spark plugs should help to decrease hc emissions hc emisions are caused by unburnt fuel which is usually caused by faulty spark plugs or faults in the ignition system which would cause the engine to misfire creating a rich mixture ie high hc (hydrocarbons)

Dry is good, but white is bad! It means that the engine is running lean, which will result in the engine running too hot and can cause serious engine damage (even seizure). Below is a guide to reading the spark plug color. Black = Rich. The fuel/air mixture is too rich (too much fuel, not enough air). Tan/Brown = Normal. The fuel/air mixture is correct. White = Lean. The fuel/air mixture is too lean (too much air, not enough fuel).
well the engine will ether run rich or not run at all because the oil does not spark as good as gas so the engine would not run very good . Also it will ruin the spark plug as well
