No it will not cause it not to run.
Yes, you should always run your vehicle with its Knock sensor.
Yes
You have another problem other then the knock sensor if the engine will not start and run. A knock sensor will not cause the engine not to run.
No it will not.
you will have a knock sensor code and the car will run slugish. when a knock sesor code is set its retards the timing so the engine will not detonate. the easyiest way to fix it is relocating the sensor.
If you run your rig with a bad knock sensor the computer will not be able to tell if or when your engine starts to knock (such as a rod knocking). That is if it isn't already cause the sensor is there for insurance. Make sure the sensor is bad and if so have it replaced asap. It is an expensive job cause you have to remove the intake to get to them (some engines have two under the intake). willyray3
If your car would run lean the sensor would not be able to determine that and their could be engine damage.
You can run a diagnostic test for the knock sensor, on your 2005 Chevy avalanche, by hooking the engine up to a diagnostic tester.
If the knock sensor isn't working, the computer won't be able to tell that anything is wrong. Run a diagnostic code anyway. Sometimes it won't turn on a light if it's just a knock sensor.
That car has a knock sensor, so you won't destroy it. It will, however, run terrible because the timing's so retarded by the knock sensor.
Knock sensorThe knock sensor for a 1996 Nissan Altima is located on the backside of the block above the oil filter. But before you go and change it out, run a tank of the best/hightest rated gas you can find and see if that fixes the problem. On my 1995 the Knock sensor is located under the plenum and intake manifold on top of the middle of the block.
It really depends upon the car. But the basic function is this: What the knock sensor does is if there is a knock being created by the engine, the knock sensor picks it up, and sends a signal the the computer telling it that there is a knock. The computer then calculates what to do in means of how much fuel should go in or how much air should go in. The right amount of both will get rid of the knock, and the computer will then keep the settings made the same. Without a knock sensor, the check engine light will come on, and the computer won't be able to make the engine function properly. Therefore slowly ruining the engine. Yes, they are expensive, but they are worth it, in the long run.
