What do two round dark spots on each of your hamster's hips mean?

== == They are scent glands and all hamsters have two of them, one above each hip (except some dwarf hamsters which have a third one underneath). They are usually more obvious on a male hamster and when they get older they can sometimes get quite hairless and shiny, especially when they over groom them. You will occasionally see your hamster rubbing his/her hip spots around their cage to mark their territory. This is nothing to worry about as this means your hamster is sexually mature and in good breeding condition.

My hamster bit my other hamster on the butt She seemed fine guessing it was grooming My other hamster rolled her over to groom her stomach She hissed at her Should I be worried?

Rolling her and biting her are signs of domination. You need to keep an eye on it. Some hamsters are very territorial, and will fight other hamsters, even if they are female. He can potentially hurt her.

You shouldn't need to groom a hamster, because they clean themselves very well, but if you want to help them with an extra cleaning, use a toothbrush to remove the extra bits of hair and you can also buy suitable grooming brushes from any pet shops, and you can buy grooming wipes, which keep away the smell of some hamsters.
