a YouTube video on the youtube page is the same amount of data (provided you keep it at the same quality. 360, 480, 720p, 1080p) as a full screen video. by mp i guess you mean Windows Media Player. it depends on the compression and video resolution. I don't see Windows Media Player format much anymore, if you come across an older site it might have a choice of high or low quality wmv to download. some may even still have it. these don't take up a whole load of space unless its a long video like a documentary or TV show. now there are browser plugins that play them right in your browser. quick time, windows media, and flash all play video and other content in your browser window with out having to actually *download* and save the file on your hard disk. it still does, but only temporarily unless you choose to (or even have the possibility to do so)
so basically it all depends on a number of factors. bit rate, video resolution, and length. YouTube used to have many limitations but with the rise in popularity of HD content they have lifted such limits from good users that follow the Terms of Use. still not sure about just any user or ones that have uploaded copyrighted content. a video can be anywhere from a short 1mb low quality clip to a 10 minute HD presentation taking up a few hundred MB. same with Windows Media Player Videos
