By itself, probably not. Over time, though, other waste and particles will start accumulating around penny and cause a problem. Best to remove penny from sink trap.

What could be causing kitchen sink to not drain when there is no clog?

another clog, further down the drain pipe. You need a drain snake.

How do you solve Coffee grounds clogs?

Best way is to avoid them completely by placing them in your compost pile or in your trash can. But to clear an existing clog plungers and/or small drain snake. If you are trying to clear a clog in a double sink, you will need to block-off one of the drains before using a plunger. After the drain starts working, fill the sink (with water) and drain again, the added pressure of a full sink of water will help assure the clog is cleared. Then don't put grounds down the drain/garbage disposal at all.

What is the best liquid drain cleaner?

To keep your sink clean and clog-free, a cheap alternative to expensive products is to pour boiling water down your sink every few days. If your sink is clogged, try a solution of baking soda, and a few tablespoons of vinegar before rushing out to buy expensive drain cleaners.

Why should you not clog the sink with solids?

If you do this water will not run down the drain, but will add even more mess to the original clog. Soggy, thick leftover foods should go into a garburator or down the toilet. If your sink becomes clogged, remove the P trap beneath it and clean out the mess.

Can you run your dishwasher if your sink is clogged?

Probably not, depends on where the clog is at and how the dishwasher drain is connected. I wouldn't chance it, but the worst that will happen is the sink will fill with the water from the dishwasher.

What can be done to clear standing water in a sink?

Plunging is always the first thing. Chemical drain cleaners usually work, but if not, you have to be careful dealing with the clog after that. Running a snake down the drain should get most clogs.

Is the sink overflow made to prevent the sink from overflowing even if the drain stopper is down and the water if fully on?

In my experience, I would say no. Several reasons can prevent the overflow from working. Since the overflow of the sink is rarely used it has a tendency to be blocked at the lower portion where the sink joins the drain pipe. During normal use and over years the holes in the sink drain at the point where the overflow and drain pipe meets has a tendency to clog making the overflow drain slowly. You can notice this when your sink drains with a "gulping" sound. You can test the overflow drain and see how obstructed it is, but do it slowly and do not turn on the faucets on full.

In an apartment complex why would sink or dishwasher drainage show up in a downstairs neighbor's sink?

Because they share a common drain line which is clogged. Gravity and a common drain pipe means the back-up would appear in the downstairs drain, even if it appeared to be cleared in the upstairs drain. Be glad you are not just slightly uphill from the clog. The sink line line needs to be roto rootered from upstairs, through downstairs, through to the common basement drain to clear out the clog.

Why would water from a full sink back up the other side of a dual sink?

The drains of the two are connected, and then feed to a common drain. If the drain line is blocked below the sinks, water cannot flow out the drain, so will flow from a full sink to an empty. Look under the sink, and you will see the drain line arrangement. Get the clog fixed, and it will stop doing that.

What is a snake wirewhich is used to unclog a sink?

It is just a coiled wire with a larger end on the that is fed down the drain to either break through the clog or grab the clog and pull it back up. It looks like a long coiled spring that is squashed together.
