CATS No...highly unlikely...foxes will investigate cats but generally back down when they realize they're in for a fight. I've personally witnessed a very small (but very brave) mother cat fend off two foxes who were taking an interest in her kittens. My experience with the 'Cat V. Fox' situation is extensive and firsthand.
It occured over several years in Adelaide - South Australia. The cats were domestic. The foxes were feral. Both were sharing a surburban environment. These animals came into contact on a weekly (probably daily) basis...and as far as I know, I never lost a cat to a fox. Just remember that it's quite a task to catch a cat (especially around trees) ...let alone trying to kill one that is fighting for its life. I must concede however, that it is still possible...but as I said...highly unlikely.

∙ 14y agoIt wolud Probly hurt cats and dogs, but i would keep pets of any kind away from foxes. The short answer "Yes", defenetly cats, and depending on the breed of dog, "No" small or "Toy Group" dogs foxes would probly Hurt or even kill same with the cats.

Foxes are quite small animals (the smallest of the dog family) and feed on even smaller prey such as mice, rabbits and insects. They will also eat fruit and carrion. Considering their small size, it is unlikely a fox would attempt an attack on a full grown deer - and would probably lose if it did - but it is said they will attack a fawn. If so, I imagine the fawn would attempt to run, but I cannot say for sure. Also, if the doe were nearby, the fox would likely go away hungry, with its tail between its legs.

It is unlikely that a fox would kill a dog UNLESS it was of a small variety and also a non aggressive type. Foxes are naturally shy animals and would normally eat rabbits, voles and earth worms. They are a major pest to hens and will kill more than they carry off and this is to do with the history of foxes who in the wild and in cold climates will kill everything they can and then store what they could. One thing to watch with foxes is that should you have a family pet die, bury it deep as foxes will dig up the animal and cart it off. I have lived in the countryside for 60 years and I have never heard of a fox killing a dog. My own dog is a fell terrier ( border/lakeland cross ) and he is more than a match for any fox. Foxes, unless they are an old dog fox are quite small and slender and cats and dogs can inflict injuries on the fox and that is why the incidences of fox attacks are small and often steeped in folklore.
